The plot development of chapter IV indicates that Hester's secret will not be told, even to Roger Chillingworth. The physician and Hester will now go seperate ways while being careful not to tell anyone their secrets. Hester will move to another town with Pearl and try to raise her in a peaceful and caring environment where her (hopefully) rectified behavior will flourish.
In Chapter IV, Hester Prynne is visited by her husband,Roger Chillingworth. He is a physician supposedly there to heal an ill baby Pearl and is admitted to see her under that term only. The magistrates believe Hester's husband is dead and have spared her life for that reason. Towards the end of the chapter,Chillingworth vows to find and exact revenge on Hester's partner in adultery. He also warns Hester not to tell anyone that they were once a married pair because he des not want to be known;especially not as the "husband of a faithless woman"(53). Therefore, one can infer that the plot will thicken through Chillingworth's search of Hester's lover. "The physician" and Hester will probably keep their distance from each other in order to protect their secret of matrimony.
The plot development in chapter IV indicates the both of Hester's secrets, such as who is the father of her child Pearl and that the elusive Roger Chillingworth is her supposed dead husband. However, Roger has no intention of allowing the mater to drop. He would go through any means necessary to figure out the culprit and to extract his own form of revenge, indicated by his frightful smile and the expression in his eyes which troubled Hester greatly.
At the end of Chapter IV the plot development indicates that Hester Prynne husband has come back into her life and is useing a different name, Roger Chillingworth and is telling people that he is a doctor. Chillingworth wants Hester Prynne tho tell him who the other person is that is commited adultery with but she refuses and he makes it clear that he will find out and get revenge. And Chillingworth ask Hester Prynne not to tell anyone his secret.
The plot developed in Chapter IV,when the Physician tells Hester that he is going to search to find who it is she commited adultry with,to seek his revenge. The Physician says he will not tell Hester's secret. The Physiscian and Hester will keep their distance from each other because they really need to keep their secret.
The end of chapter IV indicates several ideas as far as plot development is concerned. One possible idea could be that Hester's secluded ideas will not be noted, even to Roger Chillingworth. Now, Hester and the Physician will depart, while they keep there seperation concealed from everone. Then Hester and her daughter Pearl will migrate to another town of peace and prosperity, which will be an advantage to Pearl's amended behavior.
The end of chapter four ( the interview between Hester Prynne, and “the physician” ) indicates that Dr. Chillingworth will stop at nothing to find the other adulterer. At first he faults himself for Hester’s sin. Confessing, “ It is my folly, and thy weakness. I the book-worm of great libraries…what had I to do with youth and beauty as thine own” (51). Noting that a nerd like himself could never keep a lovely woman as herself. The whole time Hester is afraid that he has come the murder her for wronging him. He then reveals the true reason for his arrival to seek vengeance on the man who as sinned with his wife. However, Hester will not speak his name. He explains that he has ways of finding out the truth, “ There is a sympathy that will make me conscious of him. I shall see him tremble. I shall feel myself shudder…Sooner of later, he will needs be mine!” (52). The end of chapter four leaves you with Hester promising to not reveal Chillingworth’s true identity just as she hold the sinners true identity. Indicating that as the story develops Chillingworth will be in the town seeking the identity of the other adulterer.
The end of chapter IV in THE SCARLET LETTER gives you an understanding of Hester Prynne's story. In this chapter the reader discovers that Roger Chillingworth(the physician) is Hester's husband. One also finds out that when Hester and Roger got married, Hester was not in love with Roger Chillingworth and that he does not only blame her for commiting adultery. He says "We have wronged each other" (Hawthorne 51). Roger Chillingworth tells Hester Prynne that he does not want her to tell anyone thaty he is her husband. If she does, Roger threaten to kill the man who she has wronged him with.
The end of chapter IV in THE SCARLET LETTER indicates the man in the crowd Hester Prynne’s eyes stumbled upon was her husband Rodger Chillingworth. Rodger Chillingworth is noted as the physician for the town, which is rare and scarce, and he is required to check up on Hester Prynne’s baby and Hester herself. The reader at the closing of the chapter discovers that Rodger Chillingworth is the husband of Hester Prynne, the man she had wronged. “Even if I imagine a scheme of vengeance, what could I do better for my subject than to let thee live, so that this burning shame may still blaze upon thy bosom.” “Basically Rodger Chillingworth is saying he would rather let Hester Prynne live in shame, “among” everyone who sees of her, until her last breath. Than to bring any harm to her spitefully.
Also Rodger Chillingworth tells Hester Prynne not to tell any soul she is his wife or he is her husband. If she were to do so he would find the man she was partnered in the adultery with and kill him. This reveals how Rodger Chillingworth does not want anyone to know he was the husband of such a shameful and sinful woman.
Chapter IV reveals a perception of Hester Prynne's life. By the end of chapter IV, the reader understands Roger Chillingworth, also known as the physican, as Hester's Husband. Prynne asks Chillingworth why he has not exposed himself to the townspeople so she may receive her full punishment of death. He states he does not want to be known as the husband of a faithless wife (Hawthorne 53). Chillingworth then says that if she tells anyone who he is he will find and kill the father of her baby (Hawthorne 53). So he leaves her with Pearl and the scarlet letter and makes her swear to never reveal his true idenity. Hester, herself swears to never disclose the idenity of her secret partner.
Chillingworth is hungry for revenge. This is made clear in chapter IV. One can predict that the following chapters will follow Chillingworth's journey to acquire revenge. In addition to this, after telling Hester to keep their marriage a secret, Hester will most likely stay away from Chillingworth and they will go their separate ways so as to not arouse suspicions.
As far as plot developement is concerned, the end of chapter IV indicates Hester Prynne's secret which includes the father of her child who changed his name to Roger Chillingworth. The Physician tells Hester that he is going to search to find who it is she commited adultry with,to seek his revenge. Hester and Chillingworth departed from eachother and they have kept it a secret from everyone.
Towards the end of Chapter IV, Chillingworth promises to take revenge on the mystery man that Hester Prynne commits adultery with. In their conversation Hester refuses to reveal Dimmesdale’s identity which fuels Chillingworth’s anger even more. Chillingworth and Hester Prynne plan to conceal the fact that they are married because Chillingworth does not want the town’s people to know about his past relations with her. This leave the two at a stand point where they will probably keep away from one another.
The end of chapter IV in THE SCARLET LETTER reveals that Dr. Chillingworth(the physician) will stop at nothing to find the father of Hester's daughter. It gives you a better understanding of Hester Prynne's story. It reveals that when Hester and Roger got married, Hester was not in love with him and that he does not blame her for commiting adultery. Roger stated to Hester “ It is my folly, and thy weakness. I the book-worm of great libraries…what had I to do with youth and beauty as thine own”(51). He also warns Hester not to tell anyone that they were once a married because he does not want to be known as the"husband of a faithless woman"(53). Hester and the phycisian will probably keep their distance.

Nonetheless, Chillingworth is still concerned with the matter at hand because he is relentless in finding out who Pearl's father really is. By the end of the chapter one can infer that Chillingworth may end up causing trouble or getting out of hand just to know simply who the man was.
The plot development at the end of chapter IV was the set up for the rest of the book. It ended with Hester and Dr. Chillingworth having a conversation that allowed one's mind to see the type of person that Roger Chillingworth is. He is profusely trying to get the truth out of Hester about who the father of Pearl is upon her refusal. It can be inferred that Chillingworth will stop at nothing to find out this secret information that has turned him savage and twisted.

Roger Chillingworth's determination to find and punish the man who shared in Hester Prynne's passion. In Kayla Johnson's blog addressing the plot's development, regarding the situation between Hester and Mr. Chilling worth, she states, "Towards the end of the chapter, Chillingworth vows to find and get revenge on Hester's partner in adultery. He also warns Hester not to tell anyone that they were once a married pair because he does not want to be known; especially not as the husband of a faithless woman. Therefore, one can infer that the plot will thicken through Chillingworth's search of Hester's lover". This proves true when one considers the plot of the story and what has happened thus far. Chillingworth has returned to the town just to find out that his wife has engaged in adulterous acts. However he does not wish to sentence Hester to her death, or expose himself as the husband of an unfaithful woman. Nevertheless one can assume his anger toward the other partner of the act will not escaped the wrath that is to come.
